Although the author's intention is to assist the older, GED age student, it reaches out to teachers of all grades who are seeking an alternative and creative way to teach math to those struggling students who just "don't get it," and have always hated math. "Alternative Learning Strategies for the Math GED" is very user friendly to anyone who teaches math. It also would be a very useful book for parents who struggle to help their own kids with math homework. This book is written in simple step by step directions and demonstrations.You can tell from Mr. Cohen's, tone that he has a true love of math, and he shares this love by showing us his fantastic math strategies and tricks. I look forward to Book II with more of his great math ideas.

Fun and engaging strategies to help students gain confidence in their outlook on various aspects of math. The textbook is easy to read with many examples provided. Helps students see math in a different light. As an instructor, I will implement some of the examples in my class lessons.
As a former math teacher, I would have liked to have had this book to help spark the interest in math for my students. It is useful for all level students but particularly for the lesser achieving math students. The book seeks to raise the confidence of math students by giving entertaining and realistic examples. The paragraphs labelled "interesting" grab the reader and keep him motivated. I really enjoyed the positive spin the book gives to math. Having heard in my 35 years of teaching math the words"I hate math. I never understood it.", I appreciated the positive outlook of the author. The author talks to the reader, almost in a conversational way, not at the reader. It is obvious that the author enjoys sharing his math ideas. I found myself wishing the book was longer.
